The employment outlook for RN jobs in the United States is on the upswing. Up until the year 2016, it is predicted that the job market for registered nurses will be so wide open, that the RN will basically be able to “write their own ticket.” The nursing field has always been a popular career choice because it pays very well, it offers flexibility, and there are a number of different avenues the registered nurse can take while pursuing their career.

The registered nurse who is newly graduated will most likely want to seek employment in a hospital setting. There is no other setting that prepares the RN to work in any capacity better than in the hospital. With hospital experience under their belt, the RN can easily function in any job capacity that they may consider.

The hospital provides many different experiences for the registered nurse. The inexperienced nurse may start out on a general medicine floor to gain valuable experience, and then if they choose, can move on to a specialty unit such as ICU, CCU, Labor and Delivery, Dialysis, Emergency Medicine, Orthopedics, or any other number of specialties available at the hospital.

The hospital nurse may even consider a non clinical position. Hospitals have utilization review departments that employ registered nurses to oversee worker’s compensation and insurance. Other non clinical RN jobs in the hospital may be hospital bill audit. The nurse auditor compares the patient bill with the hospital bill. This position can benefit both the patient and the hospital because the experienced nurse auditor can find overcharges on the patient’s bill and undercharges on the hospital bill.

Registered nurses may decide the hospital setting is not for them. They may find the stress level is too high or they may not be confident in their clinical skills. For these nurses, a long term care setting might be more suitable for them. The long term care nurse can enjoy much flexibility in their schedules, and a lower acuity level. The long term care nurse will still need to utilize their clinical skills, especially if the long term care facility is a skilled facility, however, many of the residents are clinically stable and do not require skilled care.

The registered nurse has many career options from which to choose. The RN may find job satisfaction in a doctor’s office where they utilize their social skills with patients while assisting the physician with the office flow. The RN may enjoy patient interaction and telephone triage. Many nurse’s have reservations about choosing employment in a doctor’s office because historically, the salary of the office nurse was not equal to that of the hospital nurse. Many doctors however, do compensate their office nurses very well, because good skillful nurses are an asset to their practice, and they want to retain them.

It is a comfort for the RN to know that if they are unhappy in their current position, there are many more from which to choose. It’s easy for the nurse to suffer from nursing “burn out.” This is very unfortunate, but can be easily remedied. With the variety of different specialties the nurse can choose from, the nurse can keep a positive attitude about the professional and this will transcend to their patients for whom they went into nursing to begin with.

Your Right To Complain To A Hospital.

The NHS Constitution provides you with a right to complain for treatment you have received or been refused and to receive a full and prompt reply to your complaint.

You have the right to:

* Have a complaint dealt with efficiently and have it properly investigated;

* Know the outcome of any investigation into the complaint’;

* Take your complaint to the independent Parliarmentary and Health Service Ombudsman if you are not satisfied with the way the NHS has dealt with your complaint;

* Make a claim for judicial review if you think you have been directly affected by an unlawful act or decision of an NHS body, and;

* Receive compensation where you have been harmed.

How To Raise A Hospital Complaint.

When making a complaint, the nature of your complaint will differ depending on your current position (i.e. whether you are in hospital or whether you have been discharged). We will look at each of these in turn.

Procedure For Patients Still In Hospital (informal complaint).

If you are still in hospital and wish to make a complaint, you should ask to speak to the Consultant in charge of your care. You must ensure that the Consultant understands that you are making a formal complaint and that you are expecting him to provide you with answers to your complaint. If the Consultant fails to look into the matter, or does not take you seriously, or investigates but does not provide you with a sufficient response, you should make a complaint to the hospital complaints manager following the Local Resolution Complaints Procedure below.

Local Resolution Hospital Complaints Procedure.

If you have received treatment (or believe that you should have received treatment when you did not) then you need to make your complaint to the hospital, general practitioner or other treatment provider in question. You need to request the hospital complaints procedure (each hospital will have one) so that you can discover the correct procedure to follow for the hospital in question.

This will usually involve you raising your complaint (orally or in writing) and the hospital investigating it and sending a reply to you. You may be asked to attend a meeting to discuss your complaint. Once the hospital has investigated it they will provide you with a full response to your complaint. For many people this is satisfactory, however, for those that have suffered a serious injury they are more likely to want to take the matter further.

Help With Your Complaint.

You can seek assistance or advice from the Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) that are located in each hospital, but they cannot raise your complaint for you. Alternatively you can ask your local Independent Complaints Advocacy Service (ICAS) for advice and support.

Time Limit For Local Resolution Complaints.

You should raise the complaint within 12 months of the treatment (or lack of treatment) although this can be extended by the hospital in question. It is sensible to raise the matter as soon as possible.

Not Satisfied With Local Resolution Complaint?

If the Local Resolution Hospital Complaints Procedure has not provided you with a satisfactory response you can ask for a review by the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman (PHSO). You can only refer the matter to PHSO if you have raised a complaint with your GP or Hospital and received a full response to your complaint. If this has happened, then the PHSO can provide you with a form to complete to raise your complaint with them.

Medical Negligence Claim.

Once you have been through the complaints procedure, if you believe you still have a claim for medical negligence you should seek expert help from a specialist medical negligence solicitor. They will review all of the information that you have obtained and advise you whether you can make a claim for compensation and advise you of the likely prospects of success.

Year 2008 is passing by so fast, that it’s nearly the end of the year. And in the coming months, you will be creating again your list of New Year’s resolution. For the incoming year, what will be on top of your list?

For most people, they may have a hard time listing down all the things they need to accomplish for next year, but sticking to it is even harder, especially on health issues.

Resolution 1: Promote a Healthy Lifestyle

Always remember that a healthy body can only be achieved by maintaining a healthy lifestyle. This is not done overnight. It takes a lot longer than you can imagine. You cannot just be healthy for quite some time. It should be a whole lifetime. To reach your goal, you have to establish first a healthy lifestyle.

? Eat three full and balanced meals a day. Remember the go, grow, and glow foods every time you prepare your meals.

? Have more than five different fruits a day. Fruits are good sources of antioxidants.

? Develop a regular bowel movement. This is your body’s one way of cleansing.

? Exercise daily. You have to sweat out to renew skin cells.

? Drink lots of water and fruit juices daily. This promotes good digestion.

? Quit smoking. It will make you look younger.

? Drink alcoholic drinks in moderation. It’s always the doctor’s advice, and you also see them even in commercials.

? Get enough hours of sleep. Take enough rest.

Resolution 2: Stick to It

Sticking to resolution 1 is even harder and it takes a lot of courage to do so. However, keep in mind that you are doing it for your own good, and not for the sake of others. Think of the benefits you are assured to get once you stick to it.

? You will look younger.

? Your hair becomes shinier.

? You will have good eyesight.

? Your skin will be younger looking.

? Your body stays fit and sexy.

? You will have longer life.

Keep Your Eye on the Goal

No matter how difficult it may be, always focus your eye on the goal. Once an idea is conceived in the mind, it will narrow down to your actions and feelings. Always stick in your memory that you need to maintain your healthy lifestyle, and there’s no point in turning back once you have already started it. When you put it into mind, you will feel good about everything that you do. By and by, your system will learn to love it. Hence, it strengthens your desire to go on through the whole process. Sooner, you will have gained more benefits. You feel good about yourself. Hence, you are able to boost your confidence. You will be satisfied with the results, and there’s a fulfillment of all your efforts.

Other Helpful Tips

While you are in the momentum, avoid stress. It may weaken your desire to continue with your quest to a healthy body. When you are stressed, you tend to retroact. Your system may go back initially go back to old practices. Take things lightly and do not overwork yourself. If it helps, take a vacation and give yourself a good break to rejuvenate your mind and body.

Not sure what gift to get a mother-to-be who seems to have everything she needs? Why not get her something she herself can enjoy with a maternity or nursing pajama gift set? Most gift sets include a matching girl or boy baby sleeper. If you are not sure of the gender of the baby, then there are also unisex baby sleepers to choose from as part of maternity and nursing pajama gift sets. Your expecting friend or relative will especially appreciate a gift that she can use during and after pregnancy and perhaps even for her baby delivery hospital stay.

Pretty matching sleeper sets make for excellent early mother and baby photos to keep for a lifetime and send out to family and friends. Olian Maternity is a great maternity designer to check out for a variety of styles in pajama gift sets. Their 4 Piece Sleep Set in Blue includes a cute cami and patterned drawstring pajama along with a soft light weight long sleeved cardigan. The matching blue baby sleeper is perfect for the baby boy to be. Olian Maternity’s 5 Piece Sleep Set includes a similar ensemble in a lighter blue shade nursing top and floral pajama pants with a white backdrop. This 5 piece set also includes a mid-length wrap robe which works well for nursing and postpartum wear. The matching blue baby sleeper also includes a matching baby hat.

If you are unsure of the gender of the child or want something a little more modern, then take a look at Olian’s Unisex sleepers in their 4 and 5 Piece Sleepsets this season. The 5 piece sleepset in a soft lemon print features a dainty nursing cami and matching drawstring pajama bottoms. The robe is a mid-length wrap in 100% soft cotton making it a great year-round gift idea. The baby sleeper is soft lemon and gray stripe perfect for either a boy or girl. Similarly Olian’s 5 piece unisex take features the same ensemble in a soft pink/light brown pattern along with a baby sleeper and hat in a neutral grey/sliver brown stripe that is simply adorable and flattering to either gender baby.

Another great gift idea for the mom to be is a hospital delivery gown. Dear Johnnies makes adorable print hospital delivery gowns in a variety of colors and styles. These gowns are popular with many celebrities such as Tori Spelling, Samatha Harris, and Angela Kinsey. These designer gowns allow you to feel more beautiful and make your hospital birthing experience more personal, not to mention give a better fit than the worn out one size fits all hospital gown usually distributed upon admittance.

If you are expecting a girl, the Dear Johnnies Lucy Hospital gown is an excellent choice in a soft pink print. Of course you don’t have to be expecting a girl to wear pink, but some moms like to coordinate with their babies’ gender. If you opt for a more neutral gender color, then check out Dear Johnnies Finlay Hospital Gown in tasteful light mint print. These gowns are all 100% cotton with easy shoulder snaps for breastfeeding access and pretty ribbon ties down the back. If want to shake it up a bit, then opt for Dear Johnnies rocking Pia or Rory prints in turquioise and whimsical purple prints.

Remember the mother to be can get gifts at the baby shower too and she will be thrilled to have a comfy pair of pajamas that she can wear for those early baby pictures or for comfort during her hospital stay and beyond.
